Sparto Admin: Enterprise App for Sparto

After completing the mobile app for Sparto, the next logical step was to build a robust admin panel for the backend team to manage Sparto's resources and users. I also leaned heavily on Figma's new table feature, which was a blast and saved a ton of time when designing the data-heavy management screens.

Challenge

The primary challenge was translating a mobile-first design system to a desktop environment. I had to rethink components like buttons and form fields for a cursor-based interface, where click targets and interaction patterns are fundamentally different. The goal was to create a data-heavy dashboard that felt intuitive and efficient for an admin user.

Constraints

I was the sole designer on this project, which required me to manage the entire design lifecycle while acting as the bridge between the founders' vision and the developer's execution. A key constraint was the late-stage addition of complex features, such as a dashboard for running custom Python scripts, which required me to be agile and adapt the designs on the fly.

Leveraging Gen AI tools

I wanted to streamline the foundational work. I had the project context was already in my chat, so I used that to brainstorm the app's Information Architecture with ChatGPT. This gave me a solid structural starting point in minutes, allowing me to move faster and focus my energy on the more nuanced UI challenges.

After having a properly defined information architecture, I generated the copy, since it had context from the mobile app session, it wrote the copy and even displayed in a neat organised table (Gen AI tools are so good at adapting)

Getting down to work

After all the background work, I ideated the app concepts with paper prototypes.

I made the necessary additions to the design system.

And made the wireframes

Key Iterations

A key iteration happened when the clients requested several new features. I had to revisit the layouts to seamlessly integrate functions like data exporting and notification controls without disrupting the existing user flow. and creating an interface to add their own python based scripts.

Final Deliverables

The project concluded with two key deliverables:

  1. high-fidelity, responsive design for the complete web-based admin panel.

  2. An updated Design System, now expanded with a full suite of desktop-specific components and variants.

Takeaways & Reflection

This project was a masterclass in efficiency and adaptation. Reusing the core design system was a huge win, but the real lesson was in the nuances of translating mobile patterns to desktop. Integrating AI for the initial IA brainstorming also proved to be a powerful workflow enhancement, validating that these tools can be incredible partners in the creative process.
